So oppo,
Something I dealt with 2-3 years ago was the fact that the odometer gear in my cluster was stripped. I diagnosed the problem to a single culprit.
The single black cog above is substantially stripped at one point, and I believe is also riveted into the housing. I say I believe because I was completely unable to find the part, negating any real reason to explore further. Internet searches returned nothing, except the directions to just replace the whole unit with one from another car (which presumably has the same problems)
Does anybody know where I can get these? I will have to send my gauges to get reubilt at some point, and let them worry about this. Right now, I really don”t care. A working odometer does nothing for me. Just figured I’d ask.
I don’t have access to 3D printing, or I might try something along those lines.

UPS, at least in my area, does 3D printing, as do some people on Oppo

That’s cool, didn’t know that. Unfortunately that’s at least a 4 hour round trip for me.

Actually, scratch that. Carnegie library of pittsburgh does 3d printing. I’d have to actually learn stuff though. darn. If I had more time on my hands right now that would be super.

I can look through my pile of parts to see if I have an extra speedo assembly lying around. I don’t think I do but with all of that stuff you never know. If it’s the Camaro and Firebird use the same part, that is.

Just buy a new gauge, they’re not very expensive second hand.

Like I said, its no big deal. It will get done when I get my speedo calibrated. Bugs me is all that it’s such a small problem that I can’t fix.

If i was taking it apart I’d pay the extra for a proper injection molded part vs 3d printing. better surface finish, better plastic resin, and denser.

If you want to see stupidity, porsche just pressed the gear on a knurled shaft
Oh and if you hit the trip reset while moving, it will strip the gear off the shaft.

Unfortunately, I am not sure such a part exists. Google returns nothing.

I believe that was the reason my 944's odometer didn’t work either.

Do you have any old school speedometer shops in your area? They might be able to help out.

Do you have any dimensions?

nothing is available past the 90s

Nope.

If you have all the dimensions, tooth count, etc, it’s probable that you could find one from some random R/C car or McMaster-Carr.

Possibly. I would have to see how big that hole is in the middle. I’m not sure I’ve seen a similar gear with a large spindle but a small one I might be able to find

You could probably bore it out.
Also, I bet it’s COTS due to what it is, so I’m sure someone, somewhere, produces them in exactly this size.

The problem is hassle. I can definetly find or make something. I was hoping for a drop in solution because I’m eventually sending my speedo to someone who specializes in these to rebuild/repaint/recalibrate the whole unit. I would assume they can fix it.
